About

The R.P.T.I was originally founded in 2007 by a group of 4 practitioners however this was soon reduced to two namely Neil Sheehan who now runs a very successful teaching collage and Brenda Harris who is currently chairperson of the organisation. To date it is the only independent register in Ireland. The R.P.T.I was set up because of upcoming changes in legislation whereby there is going to be regulation and protection of title put in place. Under new legislation a registrant must show to be of a professional standard required by the governing body and must show to be undertaking C.P D activities.

What is C.P.D:
C.P.D means continuing professional development .C.P.D is a range of learning activities through which health professionals maintain and develop throughout their career to ensure that they retain their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice. Put simply, C.P.D is the health professionals continue to learn and develop throughout their career so they keep their skills and knowledge up to date and are able to work safely, legally and effectively .This will contribute to the quality of your practice and service delivery. Internationally the trend with complimentary therapist is towards self-regulation which is deemed to be ethics driven with professional associations holding their members to code of ethics and good practise. We have set up this organisation where we register members who meet our standards. We will keep a register of members that meet these requirements. We will provide an organisation international in scope and activity for the persons engaged in the scientific application and study of remedial treatments and physical therapy and we will promote and support facilities for the education of persons in such therapies.

Benefits of becoming a member include:

  • Representation for qualified members to VHI, Quinn and Aviva Health.
  • Access to a web site which will include information on how to set up a business, where to buy equipment, articles on conditions and injuries, upcoming course and advertising etc.
  • C P D courses organised in Ireland on subjects that have significant interest in remedial and physical therapy.

Whenever you see a health professional you need reassurance about the person treating you. You need to know they meet the professional standards. Our organisation will list you on the register which will guarantee the public of your professional and safe standards.
We strive to be an effective voice in the midst of a continually changing health care climate. We have a dedicated committee who work together to promote and protect the health and welfare and safety of the public. Our biggest task to date was securing health cover for our members. Neil Sheehan has been the main driving force in achieving this. It is through his share effort and determination that has kept this register alive and brought it to where we are today. His dedication, insight and aspiration have to be acknowledged.
